Instead of reposting, please re-blog this from my Tumblr instead: [link] Thanks.
Well, after about 4 days, here's the latest in my series of controled brushstrokes. Seriously, I'm so happy with how this turned out!
Well, this started when I noticed after drawing Xerneas that if you placed the "veins" on Yveltals body between Xerneas' antlers, it looked somewhat like a tree to me. They also mentioned a DNA theme, and going back to the tree I noticed before, I had the idea of using the Tree of Life. But I wasn't sure how to make it work. The next day, they released their names and I immediately thought "Yveltal/Xerneas, sounds Celtic or Nordic", and I thought of using a Celtic theme and tying everything together into a storybook-like illustration. After that, every element just fell into place until I knew this was what I was going to draw...and then I saw this article: [link] And I was even more happy I decided to go with the theme of a giant tree.
I'm so excited for this game, you just have no idea.
Anyway, yeah. I know, the poses aren't all that special, but hopefully someone likes this.
Yeah a friend and I were discussing the legendaries being related to yggdrasil since a lot of games have Norse mythology in them. Of course, if this is true, it might mean the other legendaries are related to the giant tree. Wonder how they might make a story based off that.
I can see Xerneas being celtic cause it sounds/reminds me of the celtic god Cernunnos. Yveltal sounds more Aztec-ish cause of the sun god Quetzalcoatl which is the feathered serpent and that's what Yveltal reminds me of.
This is plain amazing and I also though about the Yggradil-tree when seeing the mighty Xerneas. The celtic theme is also integrated wonderfully here. ^^
